"Can a protected area be a good business? Protected areas generate billions of dollars worth of goods and services but frequently struggle to cover the basic costs of management and maintenance. IUCN has set up a programme to find and nurture ideas for making and channeling revenue to finance protected areas, so they can continue to maintain their valuable natural resources." IUCN's Incubator for Nature Conservation program supports the development and formulation of innovative ideas for environmental management actions. As part of the program, IUCN is working with regions around the world to create sustainable funding systems for protected areas.
The project concerned funding proposals for the management of the Lake Pamvotida Protected Area.
In the pilot phase (2018) 10 regions from around the world collaborated - protected areas with different approaches to solving the financial problems of nature management.
