Species and Habitat Assessments

The recording, monitoring and evaluation studies of the conservation status of habitat types and species of flora and fauna is inextricably connected with the management of protected areas.

OikoM has considerable experience in organizing, coordinating and conducting the relevant field operations and specialists covering all areas of monitoring elements of the natural environment.

In particular, regarding the field monitoring of bird species, OikoM was among the first companies that provided these kind of services.

Selected projects:

• Services for updating Mapping and Standardized Data, and completing Habitats Monitoring Protocols for 17 Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) and 2 proposed Sites of Community Importance (SCI) of NATURA 2000 network of Cyprus.
• Infrastructure for spatial data visualization, of NATURA 2000 network areas and their terrestrial habitat types towards their management and protection, according to EU commitments. NATIONAL CADASTRE & MAPPING AGENCY SA.
• Recording and evaluation of the conservation status of habitat types and species of flora and fauna under Directives 92/ 43/ EEC and 79/ 409/ EEC in Protected Nature Area of Kalamas and Acheron Rivers. RIVERS ACHERON AND KALAMAS MANAGEMENT BODY.
• Record and evaluate the conservation status of habitat types and flora and fauna species, within the National Park  of Messolonghi/ Aetoliko lagoons. MESOLOGGI/ AETOLIKO LAGOONS MANAGEMENT BODY.
• Recording and monitoring habitat types and flora species under the Directive 92/43/EEC and other protected species of  Samaria Nat. Park  and the White Mountains. SAMARIA NATIONAL PARK MANAGEMENT BODY .
• Supervision and assessment of the conservation status of habitats types of Community interest in Greece, within the Natura 2000 network, in accordance with Directive 92/43 / EEC and certain types of nationally important habitats. MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT.
