Our country is the only place in Europe where the species is distributed. The Management Body of Mount Parnon, Moustos, Mainalon &amp; Monemvasia, aware of the high ecological value of the species, as well as the limited knowledge regarding its reproductive biology, is implementing a pilot study to monitor its natural ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>The project titled \u201cActions for assessing the population structure and function of the Syrian juniper (<em>Juniperus drupacea<\/em>) and the reproductive biology of the species\u201d aims at assessing the natural regeneration of the Syrian juniper, as well as mapping and studying the population structure of the species in Parnon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OikoM Ltd. will undertake the project, which will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Literature research regarding the biology and ecology of the species<\/li>\n<li>Mapping the geographical distribution of the species in the two Special Areas of Conservation: a)\u00a0Oros Parnonas (kai Periochi Malevis), b) Moni Elonas kai Charadra Leonidiou &#8211; Spilaio Mana kai Galazia Limni<\/li>\n<li>Estimation of Syrian juniper population structure and dynamics through seasonal visits and analyses in the field<\/li>\n<li>Studying the reproductive biology of the species with fieldwork and laboratory experiments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The project is expected to have impact on both the available scientific knowledge and management of the species, contributing to the development of a tool for taking management measures for Syrian juniper populations in Greece, and the Eastern Mediterranean in general.<\/p>\n<p>In October and November 2020, visits were organized in the area of Mount Parnon to record and collect data.
