The study concerns the preparation and implementation of an Environmental Monitoring Program, which includes recording the presence of flora and fauna populations, particularly avifauna, in order to reduce the risk of bird strikes with aircraft, both within the Kastellorizo Airport area and the wider region.
The airport area is located within the Special Area of Conservation (SAC) GR4210004 “Kastellorizo and the islets of Ro and Strongyli and coastal marine zone.” This SAC has been designated due to the presence of habitat types of Community interest listed in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC, two flora species of Annex II (Polygonum praelongum, Crepis pusilla), two marine reptile species (Caretta caretta, Chelonia mydas), and a salamander species with a limited distribution (Mertensiella luschani).
The scope of services concerns compliance with the requirements of the Decision Approving Environmental Conditions (DAEC) for the Municipal Airport of Kastellorizo (Joint Ministerial Decision 107483/04-05-2000, as amended and in force), and specifically with the additional environmental condition set in the DAEC Renewal Decision No. 20955/1434, Ministry of Environment and Energy, Directorate of Environmental Licensing, 28 February 2023.
