The company association OikoM Ltd – NERCO-N. CHLYKAS AND ASSOCIATES SA, within the framework of a contract assigned by the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (N.E.C.C.A.), carried out the recording of all categories of protected areas in Greece, based on the law 1650/1986 as applicable, which have characterized by the National legislation, aside from the zones of the European Ecological Network Natura 2000 and the National Parks, as well as the updating of the descriptive Common Database on Designated Areas (CDDA) and the corresponding geospatial data with the boundaries of these areas.
In addition, part of the work included:
- The assessment of all recorded areas through documentary reports.
- The inclusion and characterization of the above protected areas in the categories (Wildlife Refuges and Protected Landscapes and Natural Formations), as described in Law 4685/2020.
- The proposal for the decharacterization of some of the above existing areas.
- The drafting of content and specifications concerning the documentation reports for the inclusion and designation of areas as Wildlife Refuges and Protected Landscapes and Natural Formations.
As part of Phases A and B of the project, all available data were collected and all necessary updates of the CDDA base were carried out, which include:
- Additions of new protected areas.
- Deletion of protected areas from the database.
- Modifications of boundaries of protected areas of existing database.
Phase C of the project describes the process and specifications for the designation of new Wildlife Refuges as well as new Protected Landscapes and Natural Formations.
In the context of Phase D, a documentation report has been drawn up with the evaluation of all areas and a proposal for inclusion in the categories of the provisions of law 4685/2020 (article 46) and/or a proposal for their declassification.
