The Municipality of South Kynouria (regional unit of Arcadia, Peloponnese) and Regional Development Company of Parnonas SA (Parnonas SA) carry out an important task in Leonidio, funded by the “Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship” Program (2007-2013), entitled “Promotion Center of Agricultural History and the Sea Road in Eastern Peloponnese”. Objective of this project is the conversion of the pre-industrial building of “Fabrica” at Leonidio in an Information and Promotional Center of agricultural production and the marine trade. In other words, the conversion of the building in to a “Fabrica of Culture.”
The project was implemented by company association “OikoM Ltd. – TETRAGON SA”. The exhibition focuses on the agricultural production and the sea trade of Eastern Peloponnese.
In this context, the design, the organization, the production and the installation of an interpretation exhibition (museum exhibition) is implemented. The goal is to offer a modern and attractive interpretation, dynamic updating, interactive presentations and integrated thematic approach.
The interpretation excibition in the building was museological designed and is reflected as a narrative journey. A journey with themed routes, through the past, into the present and future of Tsakonia and the wider region of SE Peloponnese.
The agricultural production, the geographic isolation and the seaborne trade, marked the region and gave some particular characteristics, some of which survive to this day and are a major cultural chapter for a wider geographical unity.
The Museum focuses at the great Tsakonian culture (history, mythology, architecture, language, costumes, weaving, dance), agriculture and development of crops, cultivation of land, in rural constructions and installations , migration, in commercial sea activities, the richness of nature, traditional and modern forms of culture, local products and local gastronomy recipes.
The project also includes:
- research, museological and museographic documentation,
- drafting of museological and museographic assessment,
- design, organization, construction and installation of the permanent exhibition, supervisory material and commentary of the exhibits, dioramas and all museographical means,
- production and installation of the digital interactive applications,
- design, organization, construction and installation of equipment for the reception area,
- design, organization and formulation of a proposal concerning the furnishing of the cafeteria and auditorium,
- proposal for the operation and management of the Centre.
