Subproject No. 1 of the project “Integrated environmental information and awareness system and upgrading actions for the protected area of the island of Gyaros”, entitled “Integrated Environmental Interpretation System”, for which the contractor is OikoM Ltd, aimed to designorganizeproduce and install an outdoor environmental interpretation system in the protected area of the island of Gyaros.

Gyaros is an island of high ecological, environmental, aesthetic and historical value, with a total area of 17.76 square kilometers and a maximum altitude of 489 meters at the peak of “Yura”. The present project is an opportunity to enhance the promotion of the environmental and historical value of Gyaros in a targeted manner, in combination with the extended work of WWF Greece, which is the Contracting Authority.

The three (3) objects of the project, which as a whole aim to raise awareness among visitors on the protection of the natural environment and the NATURA 2000 Network, to upgrade the services provided to them, to increase and organize the visitor traffic and to highlight the valuable natural elements of the protected areas by using new technologies where:

  • the organization of environmental interpretation routes and the production and installation of signage/interpretation signs (in Gyaros and Syros)

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, OikoM participated in an event organized by WWF Greece at the Hermoupolis Textile Museum, in Syros, where the project’s course and results were presented following its successful completion.
